Puppies

While studying abroad in China, I formed a strong bond with one of the wild dogs on campus "Aipa", who looks very much like a basenji. She came into heat in China, and after a month's separation from me she came home to North Carolina quite pregnant - on February 10 she had 5 adorable babies!

Aipa herself is about a 22 lb dog, it's impossible to say who the father is, but the wild dogs in Hangzhou do look quite alike: prick-eared, lithe, agile, athletic, short but sometimes longer haired, 20-45 lbs and almost always silent. Aipa is the only one there that suffered from the cold and made noise (basenji noises).

Aipa is NOT for adoption but her puppies are. These pups will be immunized, vet checked, microchipped, started on housetraining, crate trained, coached in swimming by my Goldens, started in obedience/scentwork, and widely socialized with canine actors, seasoned therapy dogs, college life (my dogs go to classes with me, waiting outside if necessary), agility obstacles, heights, and the outdoors.

I want the puppies' adopters to be committed to their new dogs I have my heart set on Aipa's babies becoming cherished members of both family and society. They would suffer nothing less. If you are prepared to give these puppies the home I want for them, please e-mail me at <audreyannlow@gmail.com>

how_to_feed: Each puppy eats 2 ounces of thawed food and 2 Stella & Chewy's steaks per day. Take puppy out to "go potty" first thing in the morning (around 7-8 am). Play active fetch/tug/seek games with puppy, then call (and whistle) puppy to thawed 2 ounce portion. At puppy's lunch-time (anytime during the late morning or early afternoon), train puppy and feed 1/2-3/4 of one steak by breaking off bite-sized training rewards. Use the remaining 1/4-1/2 steak as training rewards throughout the day, focusing on recall. At around 4-6 pm, repeat with half a steak. At bedtime (8-10 pm), tell puppy "go to crate" and feed entire half steak in one piece. Offer fresh water or plain peppermint tea at all times. Also tie a cow hoof to the inside of the crate and offer puppy's Planet Dog toys at all times.
dog begs?: No
temperament: The entire litter is well-adjusted and socialized. No one is overly submissive or dominant. There is no "alpha" and no "runt". Confident, happy-go-lucky, and cooperative, they investigate new situations readily, with neither bravado nor trepidation. Individual variations on this will be discussed with interested adopters.

They've begun formal style training lessons, but the bulk of actual learning comes in the form of talking to them all day long and learning to communicate 2-way.
