Freya and Frigga
Freya
& Frigga are the two names of the Goddess of Love
from Norse mythology, and in keeping with their namesake, it's impossible
not to fall instantly in love with these two sweet and adorable girls. These
healthy sisters, currently being fostered in Washington, DC, are inseparable
and love to play, sleep, and scout out mischief together. Freya & Frigga
turned one in January, 2008 and are still very puppy-like. They can be a bit
shy with strangers at first, but they're also very curious little girls and
warm up quickly. They love attention, being petted and being held, and are
good with both adults and children.
Frigga's photographs are on the left side of this page,
Freya's photograph is on the right side (although you can see a bit of Freya
in the photograph at left). These sisters are both wonderful
girls with their own personality and quirks. Both love affection, but Frigga
tends to be a bit more social and outgoing with people and with other dogs,
and will usually be the first to come to you for attention. Once she feels
comfortable, she will happily curl up in your lap any time you sit down.
Freya is a little more independent and adventurous, leading the expedition
to explore the house and surroundings. Once they are used to you, both girls
love to be near you, even it it's just to curl up next to you to nap. Their
original owner had a bad back and so taught the girls to stand up on his leg
for petting. As a result, they do tend to want to jump on people, but both
are very good also at standing on their hind legs. Frigga is most definitely
a flirt and despite loving to roughhouse when playing, she also likes to
play the "damsel in distress" so that you will help her get up onto the bed
or into the car. They ride very well in the car, uncrated.
While both girls are crate-trained (at least, they
tolerate it and will settle down after a few minutes of whining), they much
prefer to run free and have not been house destructive so long as they have
toys and chews to keep them entertained. Like any Basenji, they'll find
something to play with otherwise, and they have the usual Basenji fondness
for socks and tissue/paper. They will sleep in their crate if necessary, but
given their preference they would much rather snuggle up with their people
in the bed.
Freya & Frigga are learning their basic commands such as
sit, stay, and off, though Frigga may be learning more quickly. Freya, being
more independent, is more interested in her lessons if there are treats
involved. The girls walk nicely on a leash, though they're still learning
how to untangle themselves on their own. They are mostly house-trained, but
Frigga has had some accidents indoors. Freya rarely does and will even go to
the door when she needs to go out, if you're paying attention to her
signals.

If you have room to welcome these girls into your home,
they'll quickly work their way into your heart as well.
If you think you could provide Freya and Frigga with love, activity, and evening
cuddle-time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete
the BRAT
adoption form (if you have not previously done so)
and contact BRAT coordinator,
William Key. The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will
ask you your name, e-mail address, the city and state you live in, why these
girls are perfect for your family, a
typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to
transport this pair. |
