Basenji Rescue and Transport, Inc.
DISTRICT COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a short description of the BRAT rescue process and how District Coordinators (DCs) and Regional Coordinators (RCs) work together to help save basenjis in need.

The rescue process begins with the Regional Coordinator who receives and sends the notification of a dog needing rescued or a dog posted to Petfinder to the District Coordinator. Our RCs are Linda Webb-Hillard (East) and Liz Newton (West). The following webpage lists all BRAT Administrative Staff, including a list of DCs:

http://basenjirescue.org/brat_member_info/BRAT_Admin.htm

It is the responsibility of the DC to follow thru with communication with the owner or shelter to begin the rescue process. Which includes, but it not limited to:

1. Arranging to have that basenji evaluated.

2. If you find during that evaluation that this Basenji would not be a good candidate to be placed due to medical problems or aggression, to let the RC know ASAP and complete appropriate forms.

3. If the Basenji needs to move to a new location, to find a BRAT foster home and arrange transportation to same (if needed).

4. Working closely with that foster home to ensure the Basenji is vetted, and help where needed (with issues, questions or concerns that foster home has).

5. Ensuring that the RC always advised of what is going on with the dog.

6. Working with screeners in the states in your District to identify and obtain home visits for promising applicants. Here is a current list of our state screeners:

The DC should either coordinate the dog or assign it to someone else to be coordinated. If the DC chooses to coordinate the dog, she will do so according to the guidelines set forth in the coordinator handbook. The RC should be advised as to who is coordinating the dog.

It is the responsibility of the DC to monitor the activity in his/her District to be sure no basenji is forgotten or falls thru the cracks. DCs should be aware of all current and pending basenjis' status until the placements are completed.

The DC should monitor the activity in the District to be certain tasks assigned and completed by other coordinators are done according to BRAT guidelines and the Coordinator Handbook:

https://ws6.midtown.net/bratmembers/coordinator-handbook.htm

All basenjis, except in urgent placements in foster-to-adopt homes, should be posted to the web site as soon as all serious health and behavior issues, are identified and, if possible, resolved. Serious health and/or behavior issues should be reported to the Regional Coordinator and/or officers.

The DC should always be on the lookout for new Coordinators and Fosters. Good candidates should be referred to the RC.

Participation in local and area canine events is optional.
