Happy Ending Story for Bambi

Hello, my name is Bambi Feldman. I am a beautiful (so I’m told) basenji girl. My human parents (Andrew and Sandra) adopted me on September 7, 2002 from BRAT. Before my adoption, Paula Harshberger was my foster parent. At the time, I was 6 years old and my human companion had passed away. I was very upset and longed for a forever home again. My parents found me on the BRAT website and set up a meeting with my foster mom (Paula) to meet me. Andrew and Sandra drove four hours to Tampa, Florida and brought Rudy, my basenji brother with them. We met at a dog park and I greeted them as soon as they arrived. All I wanted to do was run and run. Rudy and I got along immediately. I was so friendly with my parents and Rudy so they took me home that same day.

I have been so happy throughout the years. My human parents recently got married and I am expecting a human brother in January. I can’t wait for him to arrive, but I know I will have to share more attention and we all know how much I thrive for attention. I still misbehave sometimes. My mother and father still have to hide the garbage can because I love knocking it over and eating all of its treasures.

Now, five years later, I am still enjoying life with my parents.

Not only do I have Rudy to play with now, I also have my sister Chihuahua (Kiara) and my silly sister cats (Gabby and Myla). Kiara gives me a run for my money. If it wasn’t for BRAT I would have never found my loving forever home. I am truly grateful to BRAT and my human parents. Sincerely, Bambi

Update 04/14/09 Greetings all..... This is Bambi again!!! Wow how things have changed over the past years. I’m getting older (12 in those human years), but I haven't lost my girlish figure. Since I wrote to you last my human brother (Preston) arrived. I was wondering why Mommy and Daddy were cleaning and painting a room that used to be mine and is now his. Once Preston got home I immediately greeted him at the front door. I was very curious what this was, so all I did was sniff and sniff him. Mommy and Daddy were very good in letting me go see what Preston was doing all the time. At first all he did was sleep, eat, and cry. I even took Pictures with him while he laid on me (I was a bit nervous so Daddy stayed near).

Preston is now 15 months and is all over the place. He bothers me SOOOO much even though Mommy and Daddy are teaching him to leave me alone. We are both learning at the same time. I sometimes snap when he bothers me when I’m lying down and that scares him. Mommy and Daddy yell at me and I am slowly learning. I have learned that if I don't want to be bothered, to leave the area when he comes near. Preston knows now to do something called "make nice and give kisses to me". I like it a lot when he does that especially when he kisses me. I know he loves me a lot. He even wakes up in the morning and calls my name, Bambi, Bambi, Bambi, as well as points at me and calls my name.

Oh did I mention that he sits in this chair and eats good human food. I love when Preston is sitting there. This is MY turn to bother him!!!! I get on the couch and lick his hands in search of treats. Then I go to his chair and jump on the chair to see what I can find. I love it when Preston drops food for me (I knew he loved me). Preston doesn't like it when I jump up to get food. He always tells me Down Down!!! I think Mommy and Daddy taught him to say that. My little brat Chihuahua sister (Kiara) still likes to bother me and my brother basenji (Rudy) is a very grumpy man. He just likes to be left alone. I think his knees bother him (He did have surgeries on both his back knees for luxating patella's). Once again, thank you for finding me my family. I am a very happy girl and I promise promise to try to be nice to Preston!!!!!! Bambi

In these photos you can see me with Preston (my human brother), Daddy with us three dogs, and the best one, me on the couch, which is my favorite spot.
