Happy Ending Story for Nemo
This is a tale of our new Basenji, the happiness that was
not expected.
We lost our baby Zai after over 15 years of happiness
together. Never thought of another Basenji, and then during my tear-filled
emotions, while searching the Internet for others who felt this devastating
and life-altering loss, I discovered BRAT.
BRAT was my answer; I will give love to another Basenji.
Not a titled, purebred like my baby was, just a loner, a misfit, one that
fit me. Another Basenji that needs love and understanding.
Well,
Nemo is his name. Boy this one needed a lot of love and understanding. He
was to be put down because of his aggression. And thanks to several people,
he ended up with Tonya Ahrens. Tonya had her hands full with him; he was a
bull, very aggressive towards other dogs and not very sociable. She gave him
lots of love and care and then she matched his profile on BRAT and our
application. She then contacted us and we talked several times, had a home
inspection and after all that, we were approved to adopt Nemo.
This was a long journey for Nemo to get to us; he had to
endure 2 flights, over 21 hours till he came home to us on April 13, 2007.
We were so very thrilled to have Nemo and he was glad also as, first night
arriving at 2 am, he just jumped right into the bed with us and fell asleep!
He has been there ever since!
I
have no idea why someone would have ever given him up. Okay, he is a
Basenji, but he is the greatest. He has no bad habits at all. He may be a
tad aggressive towards other dogs till he sniffs them and then he is cool.
He even lets others eat out of his food bowl and his water dish and he has
no problem. Nemo is a great basenji, very loving and kind.
Nemo loves to play retriever, just squeak a gecko toy and
he loves it! We have bought several toys for Nemo, but he loves his orange
gecko, first toy we gave him and after all this time, he loves this one
only.
All I have to say in conclusion is, be sure you want a
Basenji. I am home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with Nemo and do not trust
anyone to look after him. If you have time like me; love, patience and
understanding, then consider a Basenji. Basenji's are so very special and
just to have one should not be taken lightly. They need love, and a forever
commitment.
By the way, we did move to the oceanside as we wanted, and
Nemo is in heaven with the nature trails.
