Destiny (also known as Ditzy) is a sweet Basenji lady who's been in limbo for long enough and now she just wants somebody to love her who won't go away. This girl is energetic and loves her humans! She does the Basenji-500 often. She’ll follow you around for hours. She’ll lean against your leg and sit for cuddles all day long. She is a Velcro dog, always wanting to be close to her human. She is a playful girl and occasionally likes to rip up a fuzzy thing. She will gladly go to her crate as long as it’s facing her human, but do not reach into her crate – let her come out to you. Destiny doesn’t like to be picked up. She’s not a yodeler yet, but is very vocal in other ways, especially when her human is out of sight! This girl loves car rides (because it's with her human!) and she may end up navigating from your lap. She's very lady like, so she takes treats oh-so-politely.

Destiny’s ideal forever home will be one in which she is treated as the Queen, has no other dogs, has humans who are home with her most of the time and who will give her lots of attention. Her new family must have basenji experience and be willing to have a lot of patience with her, especially until she has time to settle in well. This will not happen overnight, but she is worth the wait. Families with older (at least 9 year old), basenji savvy children will be considered. Destiny would not have the patience level needed for younger children.

Destiny will not be flown to her forever home. Preference will be given to applicants who are willing to drive to Green Bay, Wisconsin to pick her up or be willing to drive to within a day’s drive of Green Bay.

If you think you could provide Destiny with love, activity, and evening cuddle time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact the BRAT coordinator, Debra Johnson.

The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, email address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Destiny.

There is an adoption fee of $300.00 for Destiny. This fee is used for the extensive costs associated with vetting and otherwise caring for Destiny and future Basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for fleas and internal worms if necessary, DNA tested for Fanconi syndrome (dogs under 10), and heartworm tested. Our dogs get recommended dental work. Seniors over 10 get a senior panel. When indicated, we test our dogs for thyroid deficiencies. They are also temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral or health issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
