Requirements for Magic’s new home:
• A Basenji savvy home is a must.
• You must have a securely fenced yard.
• No air travel or long multi day transports.
If you meet these requirements, read on …
Magic, an elegant and poised Basenji lady, is gracefully approaching her 12th birthday in November. Despite a past spent largely in outdoor kennels, she carries herself with the quiet dignity and poise befitting a grand champion, a title she proudly earned in 2014. Not only was she a grand champion herself, but she's also the proud mother of several other champion Basenjis.
Magic's gentle and well-mannered nature shines through, a testament to the Basenji's inherent traits and her resilient spirit. She's not one to show fear of guests; instead, she observes the world with a serene curiosity and greets new people with a polite interest. She's slowly but surely learning to embrace the joys of being a pet and is eager to please her humans and learn the routine of her home. While she enjoys the company of people, she finds the boundless energy of young dogs a bit overwhelming. She would thrive in a home with older, calmer canine companions or as the sole focus of attention in a low-energy environment with a predictable routine.
Magic came to her foster home not house-trained, but now reliably uses the outdoors for her bathroom needs, a testament to her intelligence and adaptability. In her leisure time, she finds pleasure in simple things: curling up in a plush bed, playfully squeaking her favorite toys, and savoring the delectable taste of beef esophagus treats. Though she's still a bit underweight at 17 pounds, her hearty appetite is gradually helping her regain her strength and vitality.
This gentle soul is not demanding and would flourish in a home where she can continue to learn and grow at her own pace. She is ready to share her quiet charm, graceful presence, and loving spirit with a patient and understanding family who will cherish her golden years. If you're seeking a loyal and undemanding companion, Magic may be the perfect addition to your home.
If you think you could provide Magic with love, activity, and evening cuddle time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact the BRAT coordinator, Sabina Knight.
The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, email address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Magic.
There is an adoption fee of $200.00 for Magic. This fee is used for the extensive costs associated with vetting and otherwise caring for Magic and future Basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for fleas and internal worms if necessary, DNA tested for Fanconi syndrome (dogs under 10), and heartworm tested. Our dogs get recommended dental work. When indicated, we test our dogs for thyroid deficiencies. They are also temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral or health issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
