THIS DOG IS PENDING. Pending means this dog has tentatively found a home but the adoption has not yet been finalized. Though marked pending, you can still apply.

Buddy is a six-year-old tricolor male Basenji that has gained much confidence in his foster home. Buddy loves to be outdoors. He lays in the sun and he likes to run in the fenced yard. When it’s very hot and humid, he likes to go in and out, and in and out, so a dog door would be helpful in his new home. Indoors he loves to look out the window. Another favorite place is his male person’s lap. When Buddy lies down to nap, he likes to crawl under a blanket – as long as his face is covered by the blanket, he’s not much concerned about whether the rest is covered or not.

For the first six months of foster care, Buddy didn’t get into any trouble at all. As he gained confidence and his comfort level increased, he began to engage in typical Basenji hijinks, such as getting into the trash, shredding tissues and exhibiting signs of obstinacy. He has also begun to chortle on occasion.

Buddy likes to ride in the car, either crated or harnessed. He doesn’t mind going to the vet; in fact, they love him there. Even for blood draws and nail clipping he doesn’t have to be muzzled.

Buddy is healthy other than appearing to have mild hip dysplasia which does not require surgery.

He does take medication for the pain as shown in the data below.

If you are interested in a Basenji boy who will keep you on your feet opening doors or have a dog door and can provide a nice lap for him to snuggle into, Buddy would be interested in coming to your home.

If you think you could provide Buddy with love, activity, and evening cuddle time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact the BRAT coordinator, Linda Webb-Hilliard.

The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, email address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Buddy.

There is an adoption fee of $325.00 for Buddy. This fee is used for the extensive costs associated with vetting and otherwise caring for Buddy and future Basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for fleas and internal worms if necessary, DNA tested for Fanconi syndrome (dogs under 10), and heartworm tested. Our dogs get recommended dental work. When indicated, we test our dogs for thyroid deficiencies. They are also temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral or health issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
