THIS DOG IS PENDING. Pending means this dog has tentatively found a home but the adoption has not yet been finalized. Though marked pending, you can still apply.

Meet Clipper, a curious, energetic, sweet and loving Basenji. He is a beautiful four-year-old Basenji that turns heads wherever he goes.

Clipper was found on the side of the road at nine months of age with a broken front left paw. He received excellent medical care to surgically repair his leg. His leg fully healed and he slowly regained his trust in humans.

Although Clipper’s original owners were located, they did not choose to take him back. He was posted to BRAT because the kind people who found and cared for him knew from the beginning that they could not keep him indefinitely. Clipper was placed in what we hoped would be his forever home, but now he is back with BRAT. He did not like new puppies in that home after some time with them. It was then discovered that his injured foot had become infected and was causing him pain. That was taken care of and he is now once again, loving other dogs in his foster home and running with the best of them.

Clipper came from a terrified dog who not only tore apart his foster home's mud room due to separation anxiety but also would shred any bedding put in his kennel, to a dog who can now be left out for 1-3 hours with freedom to roam when alone at home. Clipper is a classic Basenji. He gets bored easily, he’s smart as a whip, he is aloof, high energy, and stubborn but also super sweet and loves to cuddle.

Clipper loves long walks and needs to be sufficiently exercised daily or he can become mischievous. He also needs to be exercised mentally – a frozen Kong or a bone usually does the trick and are some of his favorites.

Clipper is completely housetrained. He knows several commands – sit, place, down, off and come. Typical of the breed, there are times when he chooses not to obey but does well most of the time. He loves being around people. Clipper not only has the energy you would expect of a young Basenji, he is a sweet, sweet boy ready to find a loving second forever home!

If you think you could provide Clipper with the exercise needed both physically and mentally to help him become the best he can be as he continues to find his place in a new home, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact the BRAT coordinator, Linda Webb-Hilliard.

The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, email address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Clipper.

There is an adoption fee of $325.00 for Clipper. This fee is used for the extensive costs associated with vetting and otherwise caring for Clipper and future Basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for fleas and internal worms if necessary, DNA tested for Fanconi syndrome (dogs under 10), and heartworm tested. Our dogs get recommended dental work. When indicated, we test our dogs for thyroid deficiencies. They are also temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral or health issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
