THIS DOG IS PENDING. Pending means this dog has tentatively found a home but the adoption has not yet been finalized. Though marked pending, you can still apply.

Diesel is a handsome red and white male Basenji who recently celebrated his seventh birthday in his foster home and is looking for his forever home. This boy has lived his entire life in one home, however, the death of his favorite master and the unexpected illness of the lady in the home has made it necessary for him to find another place.

Diesel is a very particular boy. He likes fresh water at all times and once he drinks from it, he prefers that it be picked up and refreshed for later. He also likes to be fed at a specific time.

Diesel knows the sit cue, but like many Basenjis he prefers not to do so.

He loves to snuggle in bed, but in his foster home with multiple dogs in the bed, he snarks at them unless they get into bed first. He likes to play fight with his foster parents. He is not sure what to make of the fosters’ cats, but he has not bothered them. Diesel sings beautiful songs for your entertainment.

Diesel needs time to adjust to other dogs and will probably do best if he can be the only dog in the home or with one female. He does not do well with the larger dog in his foster home and he causes the problems that are occuring. Basically, he is a sweet and loving boy, it is just that he is accustomed to being an only child and was very spoiled by his master.

If you think you could provide Diesel with love, activity, and evening cuddle time, please read the data sheet below carefully, complete the BRAT adoption form (if you have not previously done so) and contact the BRAT coordinator, Linda Webb-Hilliard.

The coordinator's link will take you to a form that will ask you your name, email address, the city and state you live in, why this dog is perfect for your family, a typical day in your household, and, if applicable, how you plan to transport Diesel.

There is an adoption fee of $300.00 for Diesel. This fee is used for the extensive costs associated with vetting and otherwise caring for Diesel and future Basenjis in rescue. BRAT adopters receive a dog that has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, treated for fleas and internal worms if necessary, DNA tested for Fanconi syndrome (dogs under 10), and heartworm tested. Our dogs get recommended dental work. When indicated, we test our dogs for thyroid deficiencies. They are also temperament evaluated. In addition, BRAT provides free lifetime post-adoption counseling to help deal with behavioral or health issues. Finally, we provide a free lifetime identification tag connected to our "lost dog" toll free number.
